Gospel of John - Glorify Your Name

Image
Glorify Your Name John 17:1-5 There is no prayer more awe-inspiring than when the parents are praying over their family, a pastor is praying over the flock that God has given him, or a missionary over the people he has been sent to with the gospel of Jesus. The intimacy of these prayers are beyond the needs of the body, but of the intimacy of the heart, soul, and eternity.  They have been given great duty and authority from God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, for all those whom they love, and have given them responsibility for. In the next three lessons, we will be looking at Jesus’ prayer as he is praying over all that the Father had given him. Let’s look at the first portion of the text, “After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you. For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him....

Gospel of John - Upper Room Discourse - “But Take Heart! I Have Overcome The World.”

“But Take Heart! I Have Overcome The World.” John 16:23-33 Have you ever been in that place in life, where you need the impossible done, a miracle, because no one is able to help you, or you’re so overwhelmed that fear and doubt are trying to consume you. You can overcome any of this because we have the One who has overcome the world, Jesus on the throne with God the Father. There is only one Deity, only one Almighty God who is able to do what you need, and He says, “Ask of me in the name of my Son, in whom I’m well pleased, ask for it, and I will give it, for nothing is impossible for my Son.” Jesus was giving the disciples the hope that they severely needed. Let’s look at the first portion of the text, “In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” Jesus was coming to th...

“In A Little While…” John 16:16-22 Time is really irrelevant to God, for his Kingdom is eternal and outside the realm of time. Yet while Jesus, the Son of God, was in the world, time was very relevant and clearly employed in the plan and will of God. Let’s begin with the first portion of the text, “Jesus went on to say, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.’ At this, some of his disciples said to one another, ‘What does he mean by saying, ‘ In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?’ They kept asking, ‘What does he mean by ‘a little while’ ? We don’t understand what he is saying.’ Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, ‘Are you asking one another  what I meant when I said, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me’? Jesus knew the ...
